Do you have a Montague Bike? Or two?

Have you tricked up your bike with extra gear, accessories or components? Maybe you’ve found a special item that fits your bike perfectly and doesn’t interfere with folding? Maybe you’ve changed tyres or added racks, fenders and panniers?

You are welcome to post your recommendations right here so other Montague riders can get the lowdown on the best options and suggestions straight from the horses mouth.

We wouldn’t advise a 53T, not sure if it will work. A 48t is a better option, but I have not tried it on the DX myself. It should work, but a new front derailleur might be needed. A good bike mechanic will be able to fit the best solution for you and avoid an potential issues.

I wish to upgrade my components on my DX, including a larger chain ring set – either a triple road (max 53T) that I have spare if possible or MTB (48T max). Can you advise as to required chain stay clearance/chain line recommendations I will need to consider.

Thanks

Thanks Paul!

We’ve had a few requests about Hub gears on the 2009 range and the new 2010 range of bikes, in particular the F.I.T model.

Here’s the advice: A good bike shop could retrofit the FIT with a hub gear, but a chain tensioner is required as the rear dropouts are vertical not horizontal.

Montague have not used hub gears as they are heavy and expensive. Consumers tend to ask why pay more for a heaver bike with fewer speeds. Please let us know if you have any hub questions tho.

After a number of trials with rear racks, I finally found the “perfect” rear rack.It is the Tubus Cosmo, super strong, lightweight and with the added extension kit I can still have the rear fender , all on my Paratrooper. Pricey, yes but great quality and no heel clipping and the balance when loaded is great.
